Growth hormone releasing peptide (GHRP-6) is a synthetic hexapeptide which specifically stimulates secretion of growth hormone (GH) by pituitary somatotrophs. GH secretagogues present a tool for furthering the understanding of the control of GH secretion, as well as a unique therapeutic opportunity. These compounds activate the receptors of a putative endogenous ligand in the hypothalamus and pituitary. Acting as functional somatostatin antagonists, GH secretagogues potentiate the actions of GHRH such as C JC-1295 on GH secretion, enhancing pulsatile GH secretion.

Growth hormone (GH) has been also been known to enhance immune responses and stimulate the immune system, whether directly or through the insulin like growth factor-1 signaled secretion caused by GH.
